A Study on Sleep: ROMIR and Ascona
We spend about a third of our lives sleeping. This is when we get the most rest and strength. On the eve of World Sleep Day (March 14), the manufacturer of healthy sleep products ROMIR and Askona learned about how Russians sleep. Adult respondents from all regions of Russia took part in the survey, which was conducted in February of this year.
Almost half (45%) of the survey participants sleep with their partners. This was the answer given by 52% of men and 40% of women. The fewest people who sleep with their wife/husband or loved one are in the Far East (33%). Comparatively few such answers are in Moscow (36%) and St. Petersburg (40%).
A little more than a third of respondents — 36% (33% of men and 38% of women) — admitted that they sleep alone. This is most often said in the Northwest (43%), and least often in the regions of the Southern Federal District (29%). Sleep alone and slightly less than half of the surveyed Petersburgers (48%) and 39% of Muscovites.
The third most popular answer is "hugging a pillow", given by 11% of respondents, including 10% of women and 12% of men.
Russians also said that they sleep with pets (10%), children (7%), books and laptops (3% each). 2% of Russians sleep with soft toys even in adulthood.
Answering the question about their favorite sleeping position, every fourth respondent (26%) says that they change positions during sleep and do not have a favorite. This happens with almost the same frequency for men and women (26% and 25%). Petersburg residents mention that they toss and turn significantly more often than Muscovites - in 27% of cases versus 18% for residents of the capital. In the regions, the habit of changing positions is most often mentioned in the Urals (32%).
19% of respondents (16% of men and 20% of women) like to sleep on their right side, 13% (12% of men and 14% of women) on their left, 13% (9% of men and 16% of women) on their stomach, 11% (16% of men and 7% of women) on their back, 6% (5% of men and 6% of women) in the fetal position, and 1% in the "star" position. Another 3% named other positions.
Those who fall asleep too quickly and do not remember what position they sleep in cannot name their favorite position — there are 9% of them, and men say this twice as often as women (12% versus 6%). In the capitals, the shares of this answer are almost equal - 11% in Moscow and 12% in St. Petersburg, and in the federal districts they fluctuate from 5% in the south to 11% in Siberia and the Urals.
