Meat Market Dynamics in 2024: Growing Pork Consumption

10 February 2025

ROMIR's analytical report shows a significant increase in demand for pork in 2024. This trend is observed in both the chilled and frozen product segments, including various semi-finished products. At the end of the year, pork sales increased by approximately 15%. It is noteworthy that frozen products grew at a faster rate.
An analysis of the reasons for the growth in pork consumption revealed several interrelated factors. Firstly, the share of families regularly purchasing pork throughout 2024 increased. Secondly, there was a positive trend in the frequency of purchases of this product. These trends directly correlate with the increase in the well-being of Russian consumers over the past year and a half.
Positive changes in consumer sentiment in 2024 created the preconditions for expanding demand for a more expensive product compared to chicken - pork. The availability of additional financial resources among a significant part of the population contributed to the purchase of this type of meat. Despite the increase in the frequency of pork purchases, there is a persistent gap compared to the chicken market. This fact indicates a certain potential for further development of demand for pork, primarily due to the level of well-being of the population and the pricing policy of producers. The stability of pork prices in 2024 also contributed to an increase in the frequency of purchases and the attractiveness of the product for consumers.
