E-comm Index shows the monthly dynamics of consumer behavior within online retail

Romir research holding has developed a new E-commerce Index – which measures and analyzes consumer behavior in online purchases of FMCG. The data for the E-comm Index is extracted from Romir’s own Consumer Scan Panel*. The index reports the dynamics of spending on FMCG goods and consists of the purchase frequency and the average basket size of customers of internet shops. Back data is included as of January 2019.

In May the index was @129% that is 7,5% higher than in April 2021 and 22,7% lower than in May 2020.

Methodology The E-comm Index, is an index of online shopping activity, it is a tool for measuring consumer behavior, which is developed on the basis of the Romir’s Consumer Scan Panel. The index reflects the dynamics of spending on FMCG products, consisting of both the frequency of purchase and the average basket size of online shopping. The index is based on daily updated data on purchases of over 100 categories of food and non-food products in Russian cities with a population of 100,000 residents and more.
