Reliability is more important than safety: how have the values of the auto industry changed?

20 May 2025

ROMIR publishes the latest results of the GRI* rating for the auto industry. In 2025, changes in the values characteristic of the market are noted compared to last year's figures. Thus, Safety, which was the leader in 2024, although it remained an important criterion, lost its positions, while Reliability, Family and Independence, on the contrary, demonstrated an increase in importance in the eyes of consumers. The top 5 values of the industry also included Innovation and Caring for the Environment.

In addition, experts recorded a difference in the perception of the values of the auto industry by men and women: the former rate Independence and Patriotism significantly higher, and the latter rate Reliability and Attractiveness.

It is interesting that in terms of the three main values - Reliability, Safety and Family - Western manufacturers perform best: Hyundai, Kia and Tesla. The first two companies also demonstrate high indicators of the visibility and trust indices. However, both brands have already left the Russian market, and Tesla has never been officially represented in the Russian Federation.

The majority of Chinese manufacturers, whose number in Russia continues to increase, do not demonstrate significantly high indicators in the values important to consumers.

“Our study highlighted potential growth points for young players in the domestic auto manufacturing market,” notes Lyudmila Fukova, Senior Director of Client Relations at ROMIR. “Now that competitors have left, it is more important than ever to understand your strengths and weaknesses and adapt to current consumer needs.”
