Russian car market: what cars do people buy and for how much?

Last week, the Grand Prix Za Rulem automobile awards concluded, determining the best new models of 2024 based on three key parameters: technical characteristics, design, and practicality. As the general analytical partner of the award, the ROMIR Institute of Man conducted a large-scale study, the results of which allow not only to assess the preferences of Russian car enthusiasts, but also to identify the average price segment of purchased cars. This analysis presents data* obtained as part of the SAPPA ROMIR study, covering the average purchase price of new cars, taking into account all additional components, promotions, and discounts.

The data analysis showed a significant spread in the average cost of purchased cars. At the top of the rating are premium brands, demonstrating the highest average check values.

The leader was the Tank brand with an average bill of 4,261,501 rubles, followed by EXEED (3,824,721 rubles) and Kia (3,362,041 rubles).

The mid-price segment included brands such as Geely (3,220,071 rubles), Hyundai (3,094,250 rubles), Changan (2,814,681 rubles), Haval (2,614,883 rubles), Chery (2,528,095 rubles) and Omoda (2,523,780 rubles).

The most affordable brands for Russians are at the bottom of the rating: Moskvich (2,026,387 rubles) and LADA (1,488,818 rubles).

It is important to note that domestic brands LADA and Moskvich took the last positions in the rating, representing the most budget segment of the market. At the same time, high average check values ​​for Tank, EXEED and Kia indicate a significant share of consumers willing to invest in premium cars with improved characteristics and additional options.

The SAPPA ROMIR study allowed us to calculate the average check for purchasing a new car in Russia at 2,680,127 rubles. However, it should be taken into account that this is an average value, and the actual distribution of average checks varies significantly depending on the brand and vehicle configuration.
